Z'neth bent down to pick up a small thin book from the ground after he had collided with one of the newer medics. It wasn't one of the books he had seen the new medics carrying so he idly wondered what it could be. Well, if anything, the characters on the cover just made it that much more curious indeed [he knew he had seen these characters somewhere before, somewhere..]. Hopefully, the inside would give him a clue as to what it was and who it belonged to.

His brown eyes scanned the page, seeing more of the strange characters dancing across the page. He sighed quietly, wishing he could find something that made sense. He flipped through the pages, his eyes searching for anything he could easily read. He paused in the middle of turning a page when he heard the soft clearing of a throat.

"My diary, if you please," Ilona said softly, holding out her hand for the book.

Z'neth's cheeks heated up and he quickly handed the book over. "Let us.."

"Never talk about this. Agreed," Ilona finished. She waited until he was gone before heaving a relieved sigh. At least he couldn't read hirigana...

Peak glared defiantly up at Attor, standing protectively in front of an unconscious Ilona. Damn it, why the hell did Attor have to pick now to do one of his attacks on Airlandis? Bad enough they were down a dragonator because Z'neth was still missing [they had to find him, just had to] but while the others were on an amber run? Not cool. [The only reason he hadn't been on the amber run was because of that head cold he was just getting over and Father insisted that he take a few days off before he returned to work]. Maybe, maybe he could keep Attor at bay until Summit and Apex got back.

Attor glanced at the defiant youth, then at the figure behind him. He let out a quiet hiss of irritation and turned slowly, ever so slowly, to look at Fryte. "Fryte," he began, his tone deceptively calm.

"Yes?" Fryte answered, unaware of his lord's true emotional state.

"Why is the healer injured?" he asked, his voice still eerily calm.

Peak watched the scene with slight interest - as well as taking a few steps backwards to get closer to Ilona.

"She got in the way," Fryte answered.

"I see," Attor said. "And why did she get in the way?" He glanced over and heard a soft squeaking noise from behind the two humans. A ..hatchling? The human female had been protecting a dragon hatchling? He turned his gaze back towards Fryte and took one step towards him. "Hatchlings are to be left alone unless we're ordered to take them. And given that Father's made no orders to capture hatchlings, then this mess should never have happened," he snapped. He let out an annoyed sigh. "Now, what to do.."

Ilona released a breath she didn't know she was holding as she watched the dragons return from the most recent amber run. Her eyes did a brief sweep of the quartet - nothing seemed out of place, everyone looked in one piece. She allowed herself to droop, a grateful smile crossing her features when she realized her skills as a healer wouldn't be needed for now. She quickly turned on her heel and quietly returned to her post within medbay.

Peak glanced about, clearly looking for someone and growing disappointed when he didn't see her. He glanced over at the approaching Nora and mouthed a name, silently asking where the other was.

Nora mouthed the location back, knowing what Peak was asking and why he was asking. One of these days, she'd have to pull the other woman aside and remind her that she really shouldn't leave until after the Dragon Flyz greeted her. Just like Peak was going to have to pull Z'neth aside and talk him into properly greeting Ilona.

Peak cleared his throat. "Why don't you go see if Ilona's in medbay, Z? Let her know we're back," he said.

Z'neth cast his gaze heavenward and muttered a "pushing, pushing" under his breath as he headed off to do just that.

Nora moved over to her boyfriend and leaned against him. "I swear your brother is part turtle," she deadpanned.

Peak nodded. "I was going to say snail, but turtle works just as well," he chuckled.

Joshua's fingers tapped a steady rhythm on his desk, clearly wishing to be anywhere but at his desk in his office in the council building. The person talking to him clearly wasn't picking up on the signs that he was not paying attention and should just try this conversation later, like tomorrow - tomorrow was good. It was a day like this that he really wished he had not given up on being a Dragonator. Well, if the person wasn't going to pick up on the signs, he'd have to be a bit more obvious.

He pushed back in his chair and stood slowly. "I do ask your forgiveness but I must cut you short," he said. "I just remember that I have an appointment that I'm going to be late to if I don't leave now," he apologized before quickly walking off, not bothering to pay attention to the other person's protests.

He glanced down at his watch then at the doors. A smile crossed his face as the pair came scampering down the stairs. "Zhane, Ilona, over here," he called, waving to the pair.

"Councilman," Zhane greeted, smiling up at his father's friend.

"Uncle," Ilona murmured shyly.

"Your father's working late, Zhane, so I'll be watching you, your siblings, and Ilona until your father comes to pick you four up, all right?" Joshua said.

Zhane sighed softly. Yet another day with Father working late.

"I know you're disappointed, big guy," Joshua said quietly. "But you know your father's doing some important work right now. Tell you what, I'll let you pick out dinner tonight."

"Can we have pizza from the replimat?" he asked, trying to sound cheerful.

Joshua nodded. "And yes, you can have soda as well," he said, ruffling the youth's hair. He took Ilona's small hand in his and the trio walked to the car, chatting about the school day. Now, off to Sean and Ailyn's school to pick them up and then to the daycare to fetch Phillip. And Aaron was going to owe him big time for this.

Peak found himself slowly coming around, a dull ache in his head. He wasn't quite sure what had happened - an attack was the most likely theory he had at the moment. He could only just make out a soft voice speaking to someone.

"If I stay with you, then will you set the others free?" the voice asked.

The voice sounded familiar, he just couldn't place the where, the how. He moved slightly, only to realize how much moving hurt. He paused when he heard the female voice give a small gasp and felt a pair of tiny feminine hands gently push him back down. "Just rest for a moment, Peak," the voice told him. He was in no hurry to argue and allowed her to push him back down and slipped unconscious again.

Attor stared at the female before him and gave her a sharp nod. "Tend to the wounded, then come to me," he said finally, turning on his heel to find his dragon.

Ilona gave a soft sigh and returned to Peak's side. She only prayed she had made the right choice.

AN: set in Alt'verse

The sun was shining, the birds were singing, there were white fluffy clouds in an impossibly blue sky. It was promising to be a gorgeous day. One that Ilona had planned on enjoying - however.. She cast a weary gaze at her coworker [one of the very few she could tolerate], Sabir, and gestured to the lab with her left hand. "Do I even want to know?" she asked, using her right hand to massage the growing ache at her temples.

Sabir glanced in and shook his head no. "No, you don't. Not at all," he confirmed. Why their colleagues had to be such slacking dunderheads was beyond him. Honestly, they'd never get work started on those special projects Lord Dread Wing had assigned the lab if he and Ilona were constantly trying to undo the idiocy that their colleagues showed on a daily basis.

Ilona glanced back in and then looked at him. "So, which of us gets to be the one that tells Doctor Gangryn about this latest setback?" she asked, wishing for the tenth time since she got up that she had just ignore the emergency call from the lab. She could have been settled in the park, reading a book, instead of being stuck in the lab trying to return her colleagues to their proper state.

"I got the last one where our colleagues got themselves covered with that purple film and were stuck together for hours," he said. "It's your turn."

Ilona let out a weary sigh. "All right," she sighed. "Remind me to also schedule a session where I teach our colleagues the concept of writing a report in English. This writing in chicken has got to stop." She sighed.

Sabir merely choked back a laugh at her choice of words. "Well, at least they're finally.."

"Sabir," she began warningly.

"What? It's not everyday you meet a chicken scientist."

Ilona merely fixed him with a look. "You go see if you can undo whatever they did. I need to let the doctor know why the greenhouse experiment is being delayed, again."

Peak sighed as he started to pack things into boxes. Moving out had to be the worst idea he had in a long time - although, he probably shouldn't complain too much. After all, he was moving into an apartment with Nora so there was that perk to this whole moving day crap. He paused a moment, his hand having hit something. He picked it up slowly and settled on his bed, staring at it with a minor hint of confusion.

Aaron stood in the doorway, watching his son examine the object. "Ah, I was wondering if you'd ever find it again," he said, entering the room and settling down next to his son on the bed.

"Father?" Peak asked, holding it so Aaron could see it. "What?"

Aaron held the bank carefully in his hands, smiling a sad smile. "It was a small piggy bank, featuring little bunnykins. Your mother got it for you when you were an infant." He handed it carefully back.

Peak stared at it for a moment and hugged the bank to his chest.
