"You have truly made my night," Nora muttered underr her breath as she tapped her foot impatiently. She wanted to be anywhere but a debriefing. She wanted to be in her apartment, taking a nice long bubble bath and then relaxing with a pint of chocolate ice cream.

Peak glanced over at Nora and gave a small smile. Soon.. How much longer could Big Z drag this out?

Skylar stared at the man who had once been his brother but now was his bitter enemy. Once, he could have forgiven him, but no, not when he endangered so many lives because he felt slighted by Father not choosing him! "You've passed the point of no return, Skyclone," he said quietly, his eyes staring into his brother's. It was risky but if he could pull the move off.. A part of him regretted even thinking this but.. He grabbed his brother tightly and began to spin.

Dread Wing stood in the doorway to the chamber the slowly mutating human was in. A dark smile crossed his lips as he approached him slowly. Already the more human elements were fading, being replaced by decidedly mutant qualities. He chuckled soft and low, not wanting to wake the sleeping male. ""My power over you grows stronger yet!" he whispered, feeling pleased with himself.

He turned on his heel and strode from the room, pausing only to speak briefly with Gangryn. Soon, the human would be forever lost to the mutant he was becoming, and he would have struck a blow to Airlandis from which it would never recover.

Skyla pulled her dressing gown closer to her as she made her way down a seldom used passageway and ended for a small chamber at the end of the hall. She glanced about briefly before slipping inside. Her right hand reached up and touched the marble statue of her beloved husband. Tears welled up in her magenta eyes.

"You were warm and gentle," she said, trying to keep from crying. "And now, all that's left of you is the cold marble statue. Why? Why did you have to leave me, Skylar? Why?"

"Promise me," Iranda said as blood oozed from her mouth. "P-promise me that you'll remember me." Her voice slowly trailed off and was lost to bloody coughing.

"Don't talk, my love, save your strength," Aaron pleaded. Thus couldn't be happening - he couldn't be losing his beloved wife.

"Promise me," she pleaded, tears welling up in her eyes.

"I promise," he said, squeezing her rapidly chilling hand. Where the hell were the medics!

Attor scooped up the lifeless body of his mate, staring down at her blood splattered form. "And I fought so hard to free you," he whispered, pulling her close. Hot tears streamed down his face as he pulled her close and held her. His golden eyes stared up at the approaching human and bowed his head, not wanting to look at them and see the pity in their gaze.

He brushed a lock of bloodstained hair off her face. "I will never claim another, my angel. Never."

Cifex glanced over Apex when he heard her humming as she worked on cleaning up some mess in their (and it felt so weird to think that) apartment. He said nothing, just watched her, a content smile on his face. "What are you humming?" he asked, hoping it had the right inflections - his system was still recovering from that fight with Dread that had caused the two to unwillingly separate.

"Hmm?" Apex answered, distracted.

"You were humming just now. I was inquiring as the origin of the music." He winced a little - that sounded just a little too robotic, not human enough and he hated that. He wanted to be as human as he could be for her.

"Oh, just a little something from that musical Ilona lent me a few weeks ago," Apex confessed with a crimson blush staining her cheeks. Normally she didn't bother listening to musicals but well, the story for that one had sounded interesting. "It got stuck in my head and well.."

"You are stuck with it until it leaves, correct?" he asked. "Perhaps if you shared it, it would make the earworm," he paused, unsure if that was the right word until he saw Apex nod, "leave."

Apex looked thoughtful. "I forget the first line but.." she admitted sheepishly. "But I can pick up after that." She hummed it again, trying to recall it. "What kind of life have you known? God gave me courage to show you, you are not alone," she said, having slowly walked over to him as she sang and silenced herself with a deep kiss to her 'Phantom'.

Skyla picked up the photo of her husband and smiled sadly at it. "Oh, Skylar," she murmured, running a finger down his cheek. "There will never be a day when I don't think of you." Their marriage had been so painfully brief but it had been a happy one. If only Skyclone hadn't coveted the throne - then maybe her beloved would still be here with her.

Her hand rested on the soft swell of her stomach. 'After all, someone has to tell our baby all about you,' she thought.

Aaron sat down at his wife's piano, and absently poked at the ivory keys. He didn't play the piano - never bothered to learn - but it was something that he remembered Iranda doing. "There will never be a day when I don't think of you," he murmured to himself.

He sighed and ran a hand over his face, trying to recall what still had to be done. Peak was at daycare until five and the other four were still at school. Plenty of time to figure out how to explain to his children that Mother may never be coming home.
