The Lion silently made his way through the forest, following the sounds of someone crying. He stopped by the entrance of a clearing and studied the figure. It was female from what he could see and she had been traveling in great haste, judging by the tears of her dress and the tears on her flesh from whip marks from thin branches. He watched her, not wanting to approach her right away.
The maiden sniffled, tears splashing down her cheeks. Oh, how could she have gotten so hopelessly lost?
The Lion emerged and moved to sit near her, crouching slightly. "Miss?" he asked.
She raised her head, her pale green eyes widening ever so slightly at the sight of a lion sitting much like a man would. "You can talk?" she half whispered, half asked.
"I can," he confirmed. "What brings you to these woods?" he asked. She didn't look like she was loyal to the Witch but one couldn't be too careful these days.
She shrugged helplessly. "One minute I'm in my home, the next I'm running for my life from something. I couldn't see what," she confessed. "I just want to go home." She broke into fresh tears at that.
The Lion let out a sigh and gently pulled her close to him, trying to comfort the poor maid. "Shh.. Where are you from?" he asked, hoping to narrow it down. Dorothy would understand.. Hopefully.
"Sapphire City," she murmured.
Lion nodded. That was in the Ozure Islands, not that close to Emerald City, but he'd be willing to make the trek to get her back home. There was something just on this edge of familiar about her. "They call me the Cowardly Lion, I'm afraid. You would be?" he asked, helping her to her feet.
"Catherine," she said shyly, blushing a bit as he helped her up.
