Sky sat by Christine's hospital bed, silently keeping vigil. He glanced over to see Tash standing in the doorway, two cups of coffee in her hand. He gave her a slight incline of the head, inviting her into the room - not that he needed to. Tash always seemed to never listen to him and would have entered the room anyway.
Tash offered him one of the coffees and just gave him a tired look. "No change?" she asked, just trying to fill the silent room with some noise.
Sky glanced at the sleeping princess then up at Tash. "She did murmur something last night - something about nothing good coming from Lost Souls. Whatever that means," he said quietly.
Tash said nothing, just settled on the foot of the bed. "Well, we'll find out soon enough," she said finally. She had hoped that Aunt Melisande's gift had skipped over her cousin - but she knew better.

Sky stirred during the night, an unfamiliar voice echoing in his head. He rose slowly, heading to where the voice told him to go. He didn't realize he was heading back to Lost Souls - didn't realize what trouble he was getting into.

It would be several hours before anyone noticed Sky was missing, and several days before they could organize another raid on Lost Souls, all the while praying that they'd find Sky before anything happened to him.
But one day too many had passed - and what they found shocked and horrified them. The man they had known as gone - all that remained was a living weapon, a mix of raptor and man.
Tash looked at Brandon. "Nothing good comes of Lost Souls, nothing," she said quietly. "It's what she said. But I didn't think she meant *that*."
