AN: continuation of Hush/Compromise

"So, what's their story?" Darkstar asked, nodding in the direction of the petite norm and his teammate. He couldn't make out what they were saying - they were too far away to hear, but he could read their body language. It was quite clear that Bones had pissed her off - but then, Bones tended to be a little too blunt for people.

Razor glanced over at where Darkstar was looking and then buried his face in his hand, shaking his head slightly. "He's never going to learn, never," he opined. He let out a tired sigh and glanced up at Darkstar. "So, you want a history lesson? All right," he said, settling back into the chair. He glanced over and saw a few of the others glancing his way - damn it, there were days he really hated being the one that knew the story behind those two.

He gestured to Bones first. "Brian "Bones" Justice," he said, before pointing to the female. "And she is the unlucky woman to have married that idiot. Detective Lily Justice." Did he remember to put enough stress on the "idiot"? Because Bones was a large one. Loved Bones like a brother - but the man just didn't think, especially when it came to that woman.

"Wait, wait, back up a minute," Thrasher said, obviously startled, nearly falling out of her chair in her shock. "That's his wife!?"

"Yep," Razor said, chuckling quietly, clearly amused by everyone's stunned reaction to finding out their team captain was married. "Personally, I think he doesn't deserve her, but what do I know?" he asked with an idle shrug. "She's been with him since," he paused, trying to do the math and deciding that he'd just forget about. "We'll go with nearly forever."

Slick gave a low whistle. "Damn," he murmured. "So, how come we never met her before?"

Razor glanced over, watching the pair and winced. Oooh, that was going to leave a mark. Maybe he should go stop her before she fed his left arm to their poofball. Nah. "Oh, that," he sighed. "Remember I said he didn't deserve her, well, ol' idiot over there decided that since he had gotten a job offer from Elanore that he was going to move here, unfortunately, his wife was still in the academy and couldn't leave so.."

"He didn't," Thrasher said.

"He did. On their anniversary, I might add," Razor said. "I still maintain that he's an idiot."

Thrasher shook her head. "No wonder she's frosty towards him."

"Frosty's a good word," Razor said. He glanced back over and allowed a low chuckle to escape. Yep, watching Brian and Lily was like watching a good soap opera [not that he watched soap operas!].

"So," Slick began, trying to get back to the story. "How'd the two meet?"

Razor glanced back at Slick, a distant look in his gaze, almost as if he wasn't quite seeing him. He didn't like talking about the incident - the memory of it was still too painful. "Post incident. I think high school, can't really remember it's been that long," he said.

AN: sequel to Hush

"Would it kill you to compromise with me just this once?" Bones asked as he helped Lily into her wheelchair. "You know as well as I do that your place isn't set up to deal with a wheelchair." He had gone to see it after being told she'd be stuck in a wheelchair until she fully healed [and it wouldn't be forever - which was a small blessing] and the boxes still hadn't been entirely unpacked.

"Oh, and yours is?" she countered, crossing her arms over her chest.

Bones quietly wondered when she got this snarky - and if it was before or after the trial seperation had occurred. Okay, so it was probably after he had dropped the bombshell of the seperation - not that he didn't blame her for being snarky in hindsight. It made sense at the time - she had a job in New York [which she hadn't been able to leave at the time] and he had been signed to a team on the West Coast. Still, picking the day of their wedding anniversary to drop that bombshell kinda sorta wasn't his best idea in a long time. "Yeah," he said quietly.

That had her arching an eyebrow and she gestured with two fingers for him to continue. "Well, come on, don't leave me hanging here when there's a story behind that comment."

"You remember Razor, right?" he asked, getting behind the chair and pushing it out. Well, at least they weren't arguing now.

"Yeah, your best friend since high school," she offered.

"Well, the rejuvenator was on the fritz the day he broke his leg so he crashed at my place, wheelchair and all until it was fixed and he could heal properly," he explained.

She nodded in response - although, how he put up with an injured Razor without contemplating certain things pushed him just a smidge higher on the saint meter. [Not that she'd call him a saint by any stretch of the imagination - nope, still pissed at him, thank you very much]

Bones sighed softly. Well, one hurdle down, seventeen thousand to go..

It was just a small box - nothing flashy, easily overlooked. But the contents hidden within - the small box held such hope, such promise. He glanced at the box in his hand, the one that would seal his fate from now until the day he died. He quietly walked over to her, settling down next to her. "Hey," he murmured softly, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "I got you something."

"Oh?" she answered, tilting her head to look at him.

He offered the small box, trying to not as nervous as he felt. A silent prayer escaped him as he waited to see her reaction of the contents.

She opened it slowly, her eyes widening in surprise before she glanced at him. "Is this?" she asked.

He nodded. "Will.. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?" he asked.

She studied the ring before sliding it on. "If you will be my husband, then I will be your wife," she answered, a smile crossing her features.

He let out a cry of delight and kissed her deeply.
