Fantasy'verse: Prompt: Empire [rewrite]

It wasn't uncommon for the crown prince to disappear for days on end - in fact, it was becoming such a common occurrence that the rest of the family slowly began to plan their own schedules around it. It rankled on Snare's nerves, considering that he as well had the wandering bug that his elder brother seemed to have but could never act on it, not when the eldest would pull his famous vanishing act [which, Snare recalled, typically happened after either a quarrel with their father over Pet's treatment or when their father would once more try to force a female into Attor's life - something that surprisingly set a fire under Attor, and not in the direction that Father had hoped it would go]. Inoxia didn't give a damn what her elder brother did, to engrossed in her own affairs - just as long as he remembered to bring her a present back from his expeditions, the shinier the better. Petrify would pout at being too young to come on the trips, only to be appeased with the promise that once he became of age to train his own dragon, he'd be allowed to travel alongside his elder brother.

"Going to tour the empire again?" Iranda asked her eldest softly as she noticed him storming out of his father's audience chamber. She wasn't quite sure what the quarrel was about this time - but she knew what the end result was.

Attor paused midstride, turning to face the woman. He took a long and steadying breath before answering. Father had often encouraged them to look down on their mother, considering that she was human and therefore worth less then a mutant [he could hear a voice sounding suspiciously like his father echoing in his head with that]. Petrify openly defied him - taking solace with the human woman since she treated him better then his father did given his more human appearance, something Attor couldn't understand - and felt minutely jealous of. "Yes," he said quietly, his temper slowly lessening.

Iranda nodded briefly, handing him a small envelope.

Attor rolled his golden eyes slightly and tucked the envelope into his belt. "One of these days, I'm going to have to tame a messenger dragon for you," he lightly huffed, no true ire in his reprimand.

Iranda merely smiled at her son's reminder and vanished back to her quarters.

Attor approached his dragon Kage, and mounted him, forgoing the usual saddle and took off into the sky. Once airborne, he removed the envelope from its place and examined it. The only words on the outside were the name of his mother's birth village and the name Father Arlan. Attor shook his head slightly and returned the letter to its place. "You lack stealth, little brother," he called over his shoulder.

Petrify stiffened on the back of Orochi. "How'd you know I was following you?" he called.

"Because you've been demanding to come with me for years now," Attor answered. "Best behavior."

AN: Holiday'verse

It was a small brush of skin on skin, the smallest of touches that lured Z'neth out of his thoughts and back to the conversation that was flowing on around him. His right eye sought out the person who touched him and a slight coloring of his right cheek occurred when he saw who it was. "Hey," he said quietly, reaching over with his good arm and lightly touching her.

"Hey," she said back, settling down next to him. "How you feeling?"

"Alive," he said. "What I miss?"

She hmm'ed a moment. "Not much," she said quietly. "Just your father and Councilman Joshua Richter going over the reports from medical regarding your condition."

Z'neth gave a tiny nod. "And the verdict..?"

She snorted. "Page twelve of who knows. We've got a while."
