Poetry Transcription: Season's Greetings
Dec. 25th, 2013 08:00 amtranscribed exactly as she wrote it from my Great Grandmother's poetry diary
Dear frien's, it's Yuletide again
Here's wishin ye guid cheer
Wi guid health an' contentment
For a' th' comin' year
I'd like tae tak yer hands in mine
An' sing wi a' ma might
"Should auld acquaintance be forgot"
upon th auld year's nicht
Sae let us keep oor memories
O' sangs th' words imply
T'were better never tae hae lived
Than let auld friendships die
[the translation as best I can do:
Dear friends, it's Yuletide again
Here's wishing you good cheer
With good health and contentment
For all the coming year
I'd like to take your hands in mine
And sing with all my might
"Should auld acquaintance be forgot"
upon the old year's night
So let us keep our memories
Of songs the words imply
To were better never to have lived
Than let old friendships die]
