Guardian shepherded his three wards into the barn and slid the door shut behind the youngest, only to startle when he saw the unexpected wolf. He gestured wordlessly to his nephew, silently demanding how the wolf got in when he was sure that it hadn't been there before.
Joshua gave the smallest of shrugs. "Walks through the shadows?" he offered.
Justin fought back the eyetwitch he knew was forming. Terrific.
Jennifer shook her head and made her way to one of the stalls. "Well, at least there's fresh straw here," she said slowly. "It's not silk and satin, but it'll do for tonight."
"I'll take first watch," Joshua said quietly.
Guardian silently knew that first watch was really code for "not sleeping tonight so I'll take all watches". "If you insist," he said. "But do remember to wake one of us when you need to get some sleep, Joshua."
