Ilona settled at her desk, opening her diary to a fresh page. She picked up her calligraphy pen [a blue one that Z'neth had given to her for a present three years prior] and slowly began to write. Her eyes would occassionally dart up to look out the window at the winter's sky and sighed softly. Well, she knew she should be used to this - Z'neth always tended to get anal about his driving, especially when it came to winter and the fact that the weatherman had been claiming that the sky was threatening snow [of course, the weatherman had been claiming that for the past six days and all they had gotten so far was just barely an inch, a mere dusting] She sighed softly and returned to her writing. Just a few more lines and then she'd get up and get dinner started. Now, what would be perfect tonight? It was nearing their anniversary [well, the anniversary of their engagement - which also coinsided with her birthday] so she should start planning for that but, she sighed. She had no idea what she was going to do that year.

She lightly sighed and returned to writing - all the while trying to ignore the growing pit of worry. She closed her book and stood, quietly making her way over to the window. "Oh, Z'neth," she whispered.

Z'neth sighed quietly, his head tilting back slightly as he glanced up at the roof of his car. What a wonderful day for there to be a stall in the traffic. At this rate, he'd get home at midnight if he continued on the main stretch. He gnawed his lower lip as he thought, wondering if he should take that short-cut that Summit swore would shave time off his commute. Normally, he wouldn't be doing it but it was getting late and he hated to worry his wife. He cursed quietly under his breath before deciding to do it. Summit had better hope this short-cut was as he claimed or he was going to have a serious discussion with his younger brother.

Z'neth swore under his breath, clearly deciding that he was an idiot for a) going down this misbegotten road in the middle of bumble-fucking-nowhere and b) for even listening to Summit in the first place. That and he wished he had remembered to have charged his cell phone so he could have called his wife so she didn't worry about him.

Winter had caught him completely unaware - he thought he had more time to stock up on supplies, but no, he had to have got too engrossed in pack politics and now he had little time to go hunting for the supplies he needed to last the winter. Last thing he needed was to have to go hunting - those human hunters were getting a bit too skittish for him. He let out a puff of air, watching it form a little white fluffy cloud, which reminded him of sheep and which almost had his train of thought being derailed.

He had to focus, to keep his mind on his task - which was hunting. So, there'd be one less Bambi this winter [and maybe a Thumper.. Flower, not unless he didn't want to be able to smell for a week and he needed his sense of smell] He froze, his golden eyes widening. Oh, hell!

-

Z'neth cursed himself a fool for allowing himself to be distracted and allowing his eyes to leave the road for when he looked back up he found himself staring at a monster, a giant wolf - or was it a wolf, because he wasn't aware of many wolves that were able to walk on two legs. He barely had time to slam on the brakes...
